The 2015 Season

Lydden Hill, August 2015

Yet again the first race of the year was at Croix en Ternois.  We were competing for the Camathias Cup.  We finished 2nd in the first race and 3rd in the 2nd race.  The bike was slowing quite a lot towards the end of the 2nd race and it was discovered when I arrived home that one of the pistons had detonated.  So back to the drawing board, but we think it is a fuel problem.

There was a big lull in the season and the next race was at Brands Hatch on the 4th & 5th of July.  Unfortunately Bert did not get over from Belgium and it was too short notice to get another passenger so I could not race.

Then on to Chimay and it was another disastrous weekend of racing.  We went very well in practice in the couple of laps we were able to do and had a good position on the grid.  In the 1st race a very ungentlemanly French sidecar driver would not let me pass down the straights as he kept weaving all over the track and then he stopped dead on the entrance to one of the awful chicanes (they have ruined the Chimay circuit adding in 2 more chicanes).  I had nowhere to go but into the back of them and that put us out of the race.  The 2nd race which was a round of the Camathias cup the ignition wire broke.  The 3rd race the engine seized!

There were some good races at Donington Park. In the first race they won their class. In Saturday’s race the clutch burnt out, so they had to stop. In the 1st race on Sunday there was a small ignition problem, as the ignition was cracked (Pazon sent a new ignition as it was faulty).

They changed the ignition for the 2nd race and they were really pleased with how the bike went, they came 2nd in their class behind one of the really quick (modern!) BMW’s.

So some good, some bad.

Bill-Hodgkins-Sidecar-Racing-2015Gedinne August 2015
Gedinne was not a very good weekend’s racing.  In the first race the Marshalls were black flagging a sidecar crew at the rear of the field but unfortunately when Bill & Bert went through in 3rd place the black flag was being waved vigorously at them so Bill wrongly presumed that he had to stop which he did.  So needless to say they were not very happy.  Then later that day when they were checking the bike over for the next day’s race they found a small crack in the rear of the frame.  Unfortunately the crack could not be repaired at the circuit so they had to make the decision not to race on the Sunday.

A much more successful weekend of racing!  Bill & Bert won their class in 3 out of the 4 races they entered.  In the other race the clutch adjuster came loose and was dangerous as Bill could not change gear properly so they had to pull in.

Snetterton October 2015
Again better results.  In 2 of the 3 races they competed in they won their class in 2 and finished 2nd in the other race.

That is now the end of the 2015 racing season.

Hope to be back again next year!
